UPDATE: Port Shepstone power outage – new breaker needed

Restoration time is not known at this stage.

Ray Nkonyeni Municipality has been trying to source a new breaker to replace the faulty one at the Reynolds switching room.

That’s according to RNM spokesman Simon April, explaining why certain sections of the Port Shepstone CBD have been without power, some for up to five days now. This includes the area near the Mzimkhulu River bridge as one comes into town from the northern side.

The traffic lights at the Oribi Plaza have not been functional for days.

“Manufacturer Actom is checking with its other branches, and feedback is awaited. But also, RNM contractor Siks Electrical is trying to source a breaker from its suppliers,” he said.

“In the meantime, Siks Electrical has been engaged to send a breaker specialist to dismantle the faulty one to see if it can’t be repaired on-site.”

April said that once the faulty CB is repaired and/or replaced, it will allow switching to locate the MV fault that is causing the tripping.

“Unfortunately, restoration times are unknown at this stage as the fault hasn’t been located and repair times are unknown,” he said.

“RNM sincerely apologises for all the inconvenience caused and would like to assure all affected that it is doing everything possible to restore power as soon as is practically possible.”
