Carnival brings families together

The next step is to establish a skills development and trade training centre.

An annual family carnival fundraiser held in Ifafa Beach in late December was a resounding success.

The committee of Siyangamela Upliftment Centre, a newly established non-profit organisation, and the organisers of this year’s event are excited with the prospect of achieving the next steps in the establishment of a skills development and trade training centre.

“With support from the public and the partnerships we have made in support of our community initiative, we are both encouraged and confident that this annual fundraiser event will not only grow from strength to strength but will also assist us in making our objectives possible. We see a great need; many youth are stuck in a perpetual cycle of poverty and disadvantaged circumstances, and we can help them,” said Emmanuel Gomes, chairperson of Siyangamela Upliftment Centre.

In true carnival spirit, the event was structured to be interactive with a photo booth, face painting and super-hero mascots for the children. Sponsored prizes were on offer throughout the event’s main raffle, dance competitions, and a few classic carnival games that gave winners free entries into additional raffles of their choice.

The organisers thank sponsors for making the event a success. The funds raised will go towards the long-anticipated welding and steel fabrication training school.

However, much work is still to be done, with more fundraising opportunities to be explored. The organisation calls on tradesmen and women who are passionate about imparting their skills to disadvantaged youth. Contact Peter de Klerk on 076 5856678 or Natasha Gomes on 078 5132667.
