JUST IN: Strike is over, it’s back to work

All municipal services are set to resume.

Both Ray Nkonyeni Municipality (RNM) and the South African Municipal Workers Union (SAMWU) have confirmed that the strike is officially over, and workers will return to work.

The strike, which has been on for over three months has crippled municipal services on the South Coast.

Both RNM and SAMWU sent reports to the KZN Cogta MEC Rev Thulasizwe Buthelezi’s office confirming that they had found a resolution to their issues.

SAMWU’s first deputy president, Mluleki Mbhele.

Municipal manager, Khetha Zulu said that he has signed the agreement earlier this afternoon to backpay workers for two months in February, another payment will be made in December and the final amount will be paid in March 2026.

SAMWUs first deputy president Mluleki Mbhele also confirmed that workers will report back to duty.

Some workers will resume duties tomorrow, while the others will start on Monday, February 3.

This means that all municipal services will resume.
