The top 10 performing schools in the Ugu district were also acknowledged.

Ray Nkonyeni Municipality (RNM) awarded top 2024 matric achievers at the Uvongo Town Hall last Thursday.

Municipal manager Khetha Zulu said that Department of Education plays a critical role, hence, the reason to acknowledge the work done by them.

“We are here to salute the top achievers and top-performing schools. In particular, the schools in Quintile four and five which produced our top achievers which are Gamalakhe Commercial High, Port Shepstone High and Port Shepstone Secondary. Quintiles one, two and three also gave us top achievers from Thobigunya High, Mlonde High, Nombuso High, Mshweshwe High and Ezinqoleni High.”

He also acknowledged the top 10 performing schools in the Ugu district.

The Department of Education’s acting district director in Ugu, Nkosinathi Madadi, said parents should be proud of their children and themselves for such great results.

“This is the time where parents should be dancing, singing and celebrating and giving themselves a pat on the back.”

RNM mayor Zodwa Mzindle said the event is to offer congratulations to all learners who have outdone themselves in their final year of school exams and who, by so doing, are encouraging others to follow in their footsteps.

“The central question is how they were able to achieve such remarkable results despite the challenges which they had to face. I would like to believe that children thrive when they receive the necessary support from those in their immediate environment. In this instance, that includes teachers, parents, members of the school governing bodies and the community at large.”

The class of 2024 received certificates, trophies and laptops.
