Musicians inspire devotees at Kavady celebration

Cohen Pillay, vice-chairperson of Umbango Temple said the event was more than just a musical celebration.

Musician Deshan ‘Styler’ Naidoo, with the Nadaswaram Rendition group’s Thirushen Kengan and Dharashen Kengan, created an unforgettable spiritual experience at the Thai Poosam Kavady festival at the Umbango Sri Siva Soobramoniar Temple (Umbango Temple) recently.

Hindu devotees have been observing the festival since February 2, which centres on the worship of Lord Muruga, who symbolises wisdom and strength. Devotees pray to him to lessen their burdens in life.

Cohen Pillay, vice-chairperson of Umbango Temple, said the event was more than just a musical celebration.

“It was an opportunity for our community to come together in faith and devotion. We aimed to create an unforgettable spiritual experience, and many were left inspired. The devotional songs rendered to Lord Muruga are one of the reasons we call Thai Poosam Kavady a festival. We were glad to see over 500 devotees enjoy the musical celebration,” said Cohen.
