Amakhosi works together with municipality
Traditional leaders commended Umdoni for service delivery programmes implemented in their areas.
Amakhosi of the Umdoni area were hosted by the municipality on Monday morning last week to receive their service delivery contributions in preparation for the 2025/26 financial year.
Strategic departments, which include the municipality’s technical services, community services and local economic development, and Eskom were part of this session and gave service delivery reports on various projects and their progress in various wards.
This session created a platform for Amakhosi to comprehensively engage on needs that speak directly to their areas. Furthermore, this session aimed to maintain a good rapport between Amakhosi and the municipality led by the mayor, Mbali Cele-Luthuli.
Emphasis was placed on the continuous development of rural communities, which included the development of the road network, access roads, community halls, electricity and other development structures.
Various youth development programmes were also presented, where the municipality trained youth in various skills, which include security, sewing and fashion design, robotics and coding, and farming skills. Forty students were assisted with registration fees in tertiary institutions.
The chairperson of the Ugu House of Traditional Leaders, Nkosi Ngcobo, commended the municipality for the service delivery programmes being implemented in their areas.
“Umdoni and Amakhosi have established a good working relationship, and we can attest that the municipality is investing in our communities and in our children,” said Ngcobo.
“We also commend that Umdoni consults us as Amakhosi on development projects in our areas. This is a clear indication that working together, we can do more.”
