Sassa assists grant recipients
At the same time, Sassa staff encouraged beneficiaries to change their gold cards to the black cards.
KZN’s South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) visited Port Shepstone last Thursday, bringing its services closer to the people.
The Sassa Cares activation was held on the rooftop of Port Shepstone Mall, where people came to get help pertaining to their grants.
The activation also gave other grant recipients the opportunity to sort out pending issues.
Sassa’s senior manager of communications, Sandy Godlwana, said the campaign also encouraged people to change their gold cards to the black ones as it has more security features.
“We also helped those who are having issues with the R370 Covid grant because we are aware that some have not received their money.”
Godlwana said they chose to visit Port Shepstone due to the challenges at the local Sassa office and to also let people know about upcoming plans.
“While several employees are on suspension, staff from the provincial office are helping out.”
Also, Godlwana said home visits have been stopped; however, assistance will be provided on a case-by-case basis.
“We will visit a person who is ill or disabled. They can ask a family member to call 0800 601011 to schedule a home visit.”
She said for a home visit, an ID, address and a phone number are required.
People are still urged to go to their nearest post office with their ID or selected supermarkets such as Shoprite, Boxer, U-save, Pick n Pay and Checkers.
Godlwana said the service at the supermarkets will be available until June 2025.
