Conservancy’s Easter treasure hunt a success

Families seemed to love it so much that we hope to make it an annual event.

What a wonderful morning was had at Umtamvuna Marine Conservancy’s Easter Treasure Hunt on Easter Saturday.

“The conservancy’s committee and helpers included, we counted almost 60 people,” said Helen Ueckermann, UMC vice-chairperson and organiser of the event.

Vuka Valley Eco Living’s Matt Krol and MichzMagic artist Michelle Babich were winners with their respective presentation and face painting.

After Krol’s presentation on sustainably growing your own food, the families went treasure hunting around Port Edward’s Granny’s Beach. They had to find rocks painted with baby chick faces, each with a number on the back for the raffle that followed.

Once back from the beach, excited little faces waited for their chick pebble’s number to be called out, while the smell of braaiing wors filled the air. Thirteen were lucky winners, and the others all received an Easter egg as a consolation prize.

And then it was boerie time. The conservancy sold a good deal of boerie rolls to the hungry treasure hunters.

“We thank all who attended and supported our Easter Treasure Hunt. Everyone seemed to love it so much that we hope to make it an annual event,” says Ueckermann.
