Ruben shoots to prominence

The teenager needs financial assistance to make the trip possible.

Ruben Rudling (17) has been selected to represent South Africa in England later this year.

He was selected for the team following his excellent results at the recent South African National Schools Shooters’ Union (Sanssu) Top 80 tournament held in Upington.

His specialty is the springer discipline, where he was the top springer overall and took the gold medal.

He also took gold in the 2x 3P, plus bronze in the 10m stand.

It’s a huge achievement. He’s one of only two shooters from KwaZulu-Natal, along with Zelda Grove, who made the national team.

Ruben attends Port Shepstone High, where he is in matric this year, but shoots as part of the Glenwood High team.

He’ll be competing in the British Junior Internationals at Camp Bisley later this year.

It’s an incredible opportunity for him but also quite a costly one.

The full tour and team kit amount to R75 000, and young Ruben is trying to raise the funds to help make this possible.

If anyone would like to help Ruben with sponsorship, please contact Bruce Rudling on 082 3366387.

“Shooting has been a passion of mine for many years, and to now have the opportunity to compete internationally is both a dream come true and an honour,” said Ruben.

“I am committed to representing my country and Sanssu with pride, discipline and sportsmanship.”

The team will tour England from July 28 to August 9.

Ruben will be competing in the prestigious British Junior Internationals (BJI) at Camp Bisley from August 4 to 7.
