R11m bridge for Malangeni residents
The scope of work included site preparation, demolition of the existing structure, rebuilding a brand new structure, hydraulic and drainage improvements, among other critical work.
The dilapidated Malangeni bridge in Ward 11 will receive a R11m facelift from Umdoni Municipality.
An official sod-turning ceremony to mark the construction of the bridge was held last Thursday.
It is widely known as the Bhiniva bridge and joins the communities of Ward 9 and 11.
The bridge had been affected by floods.

The mayor of Umdoni Municipality, Mbali Cele-Luthuli, said the Malangeni bridge is a crucial route for school transport and agriculture-heavy vehicles.
She also introduced the appointed service provider to the community, SPK Engineers Pty Ltd.
Cele-Luthuli said the project will create 15 jobs for locals, and it will be completed within six months.
She added that the scope of work included site preparation, demolition of the existing structure, rebuilding a brand new structure, hydraulic and drainage improvements, among other critical work.
Addressing the community, Cele-Luthuli said the municipality’s mission was to ensure that Umdoni communities live in developed areas.

“The municipality ensures the prioritisation of infrastructure. We therefore plead with the community to support this project as its successful execution will bring comfort to the affected communities.”
