Immerse yourself in nature at bird sanctuary

Many people also enjoyed a picnic under the fig tree.

The Pennington Conservancy has been working hard over the past few months to make the Nkomba Bird Sanctuary inviting to families, particularly, grandparents who have their grandchildren with them during holidays and are looking for something different to keep them engaged.

All the walkways have been improved, benches repaired, trails cleared and widened, new seating and braais installed, and the toilet and storeroom painted with a wonderful mural reflecting the natural surrounding forest and its animals.

To celebrate this hard work done by so many, the conservancy invited people to join them last month for a talk on birds by Allan McLennan and spiders by Carol Smith, followed by a spider hunt.

Also, eggs filled with marshmallows were placed along one of the shorter trails for children to find. Those who had entered the egg hunt received a small gift.

Many people also enjoyed a picnic under the fig tree.

The sanctuary’s entrance is on Dolphin Drive, Pennington. From the R102, take the Dolphin Drive turn off into Pennington, immediately turn right, over the stop street and the clearly marked entrance to the Nkomba Bird Sanctuary is on your left.

All are welcome to visit this beautiful little spot.
