Mpenjati Eco Festival: Walks, talks, learning, nature, fun
Don’t miss this opportunity to enjoy, learn, and contribute to the protection of precious natural spaces.
Nature lovers and eco-conscious citizens can look forward to the Mpenjati Eco Festival 2025, an one-day outdoor celebration set to take place on Saturday, June 28.
Gates open at 07:30, and the day promises to be both educational and enjoyable for all ages.
Following the success of last year’s event, this year’s festival will once again showcase the unique beauty and attractions of the Mpenjati Nature Reserve and its surroundings.
The festival will be based on the north bank of the reserve.
Hosted by the Mpenjati Honorary Officers (HOs) Group, in collaboration with Mpenjati Conservancy and supported by the Mzimkhulu HOs Group, the event is more than just a fun day out.
Anna Jordan, chairperson of Mpenjati HOs, shared that the heart of the festival is to promote eco-conscious living, biodiversity protection, and the importance of preserving wild spaces.
“Our goal is to create engagement and inspire our communities to appreciate the value of wild places and to live more consciously and in harmony with our environments.”
The festival also seeks to connect social development, eco-tourism, and community conservation, showing how everyone can contribute to a sustainable future.
Visitors can look forward to a structured programme featuring: demonstrations, guided nature walks, guest talks, workshops and activities for children.
Guest speakers and representatives from various conservation organisations and non-profits will share valuable insights throughout the day.
The festival will also host interest and vendor stalls focused on: renewable technologies, sustainable and healthy living, recycling and eco-friendly solutions.
There will be food stalls on-site, but visitors are welcome to bring their own picnic baskets or make use of the braai areas to enjoy a full day outdoors.
Entry fee is adults: R40. Children under 12: R20.
All festival activities are free, though donations toward conservation projects are encouraged.
Those interested in participating as vendors or conservation representatives can contact Anna Jordan via WhatsApp on 067 7694414 or email mpenjaticonservancy@gmail.com, or Lynne Crocker on 063 8316013.
