Go green at Mpenjati Eco Festival this Saturday

Bring the children for a full day of nature, fun, and learning.

Nature lovers can look forward to the Mpenjati Eco Festival 2025, taking place this Saturday (28th), on the north bank of Mpenjati Nature Reserve. Gates open at 07:30. The festival, hosted by Mpenjati Honorary Officers (HO) and partners, promotes eco-conscious living, biodiversity, and community conservation.

Beautiful hand-painted pebbles are up for grabs in return for a donation.

Visitors can enjoy guided nature walks, talks, demonstrations, workshops, and children’s activities. Stalls will showcase sustainable living, recycling, and eco-friendly products.
Entry: R40 adults | R20 children under 12.
Picnics and braais are welcome. Bring your own chairs.

Festival programme:
07:30: Morning birding walk with Mpendulo Mzindle from South Coast Birding Tours.
08:30: Yoga on the beach with Flow Yoga’s Alex.
09:30: Plants are fun too. A children’s activity with HO Debbie King.
10:30: NSRI Station 32 display and demonstration.
11:30: Urban wildlife: conflict or cohabitation with Judi Davis.
12:30: Story time with Umtamvuna Conservancy youth: children’s activity.
13:00: Open lunch session with live music and poetry.
13:30: Wildlife protection talk and demonstration with Craig Hosken of Crag’s View.
14:30: Learn about snakes with Corrie Lotter, a registered ASI snake handler.
15:30: Saving the wild: walk and talk with a South African field ranger (children welcome).

Special focus on youth
* The Umtamvuna Marine Conservancy will have a stall at the Mpenjati Eco Festival.
* Special focus on the youth and younger kids through storytelling, colouring and painting.
* Please pay us a visit between 07:00 and 17:00.
* Storytelling hour at 12:00.
* Come chat with us about: poaching and snaring, the threat of alien invasive plants, and youth involvement in nature conservation.
* Donate and pick a hand-painted ‘pocket hug’ (pebble). Indigenous plants for sale.

NSRI Station 32 will host a display.
