Four killed in Shelly Beach crash

A Netcare 911 helicopter was activated to airlift a critically injured person.

Four people have died following a horrific multi-vehicle collision on the freeway in Shelly Beach earlier today.

The crash involved three vehicles, including a bakkie towing a trailer loaded with potatoes.

Wreckage from the collision that left four dead and several others injured.

Med-Evac teams, along with other emergency services, responded swiftly to the scene.

Despite their best efforts, four people were declared dead at the scene.

Two people sustained critical injuries, while two others were moderately injured.

“Our teams worked tirelessly alongside other emergency services to stabilise the injured and secure the scene,” said Glen Preston of Med-Evac.

“It’s always heart breaking to respond to a scene with such severe loss of life. Our thoughts are with the families at this difficult time.”

Emergency crews praised the coordinated response of all services involved, who worked with professionalism, urgency and compassion.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the collision.
