Ray Nkonyeni Municipality’s roads budget questioned

The issue of potholes in Ray Nkonyeni Municipality was raised at a council meeting recently.

At a recent council meeting, DA councillor Leon Garbade questioned why Ray Nkonyeni Municipality’s (RNM) current roads budget is almost exhausted, yet little work has been done in both urban and rural areas.

He said a recent inspection revealed that roads in suburbs and rural communities, including Gcilima, are in poor condition.

Meanwhile, ratepayers say pothole-riddled roads across RNM are causing damage to their vehicles.

A Sea Park resident said potholes on Oxford Road and Port Shepstone Street have not been properly repaired for the last three years, despite numerous complaints.

“Some had to fix the potholes themselves because their cars keep getting damaged,” he said.

RNM’s acting spokesperson Zinhle Mzindle said the potholes on both roads were repaired last year, but new ones have appeared. “They are due to be repaired on July 17,” she added.
