Port Shepstone Country Club cricketers cruise through quarter-finals in winter league
Semi-final matches will be played this Sunday.
Ashley Lombard, opening the innings for Port Shepstone CC, gave the Challengers XI something of a batting clinic with clean, crisp hitting to score 54 not out off 20 balls.
This was in quarter-final action of the Southern KZN Winter League, with the match played at Port Shepstone High.
Thirty of these runs came in one over, where he caressed three fours and crushed three sixes, making it look effortless.
This took his score from 24 not out to 54 not out. Two balls later, Mikyle Bartle lofted a sweetly struck drive over extra cover for six to abruptly end the match.
The game was played on a very good deck. The ball came through properly, with some nip for the bowlers and good value for batsmen, if they could get their shots away.
Challengers had batted first and scrambled together 82 runs, with some resilience from Ayoob Ebrahim and Reuben Kunz in the middle order.
Jayden Scholtz, with his leg-spinners, put paid to any tail wagging, wrapping things up in hasty fashion, together with his brother Liam, who bagged the final wicket.
In the games played at Port Shepstone Country Club, Legends beat Bizana by a big margin, with a half-century from Sakir Molvi and wickets from Abdullah Dhudhat.
Earlier, Knockouts beat YP XI by four wickets, with Ashraf Mulla taking five wickets and Faizal Darsot four wickets.
The run chase was led by Hamza Dhudhat, who made 44 before getting out.
Coming up, Imaani Perfume play Gujurat Warriors. The winner will play Legends.
The second semi-final will be between Port Shepstone CC and Knockouts.
