It was a proposal to remember as Luke Jones got down on one knee in the snow at St Bernard’s Peak Mountain Lodge outside Swartberg in the southern Drakensberg and asked Jhenae de Heer from Oslo Beach to marry him.

The surprise engagement on August 10 came as parts of KZN were blanketed in snow, while much of the province experienced icy cold temperatures.

Jhenae said she had no idea the proposal was coming.

“I honestly didn’t believe it was happening! I was completely shocked and overwhelmed with emotion. There were so many tears. I definitely didn’t expect to cry as much as I did!”

Having her loved ones there made the special moment even more meaningful.

“It meant so much to me to have everyone there, as they made it something I’ll never forget. It still doesn’t feel real.”

Jhenae’s parents, Pam and Benja, congratulated the couple on their engagement, describing it as “a very proud moment”.

“Love you guys lots and wish you many happy years together,” they said.
