All employees will resume duty with immediate effect.

This after municipal officials downed tools on September 8, and subsequent to the engagements between employees, union representatives and the newly appointed acting municipal manager West Gumede,

Umdoni Municipality communications has confirmed that the matter has been resolved.

All municipal offices will be fully operational and services, which include refuse collection, the test centre and licensing offices amongst others, will accordingly operate.

As per the communications department, the acting municipal manager has been given time to deal with the critical issues raised by employees which include amongst others the issue of the Organisational Organogram, lack of tools of trade and employee wellness in the municipality.

“I have duly taken all concerns raised by employees through their representatives and I can confirm that these issues will be dealt with within the ambits of the legislations that govern municipalities and in consultation with the Umdoni Council,” said Gumede.

“The Umdoni leadership, both politically and administratively are pleased that employees heeded to the call to resume duty after weeks of absence of services to the community. I wish to categorically extend my sincere apologies to the Umdoni residents and business community for inconveniences encountered as a result of employees downing tools.”
