Father-daughter duo are sharp shooters

The event was held in association with Confederation of Hunting Associations of South Africa.

The Alfred County branch of KwaZulu Natal Hunters and Game Conservation Association hosted a successful .22 rifle shooting competition recently.

It was held for members to sight in their firearms, practise their shooting skills and to compete with one another in rifle, handgun and shotgun. The event was held in association with the Confederation of Hunting Associations of South Africa and Luckys Sport Port Shepstone as the major sponsor.

It was held at Bonnibrae Farm in Oribi and hosted by Heinz and Kurt Bunge who provided a great shooting facility.

The distances ranged from 25m to 140m and was a good test of everyone’s skills and equipment.

In the open class, 20 participants took part and their scores ranged from 100% to a low of 51%. Winning the compo was Kevin Goddard with his full house score of 35/35.

In the junior division, six young participants took part. Their scores ranged from a high of 91% to a low of 62%. Top shooter was Jenna Goddard with a score of 32/35 -clearly shows that father and daughter made a formidable team.

Yusuf Moosa from Luckys Port Shepstone donated a .22 Derya lever action rifle valued at R10 000 as the first prize, along with a host of other prizes for participants.

Members of the management team including chairperson and range officer Len Redinger, ranger Kurt Bunge, Desmond Govender, Ryan Wichmann, Bertie Strydom and Andre Nel organised an excellent course for good, safe shooting throughout the day.
