Harding hijackers fatally wounded in Glebelands shootout with police

Two unlicenced firearms as well as six rounds of ammunition were found.

Two men were fatally wounded during a shootout with police at Glebelands Hostel in Umlazi on Monday night this week.

The men, aged 27 and 30, were among a group of five wanted in connection with a hijacking of a van in Harding last month.

One of the men was already in custody, and police were on the hunt for the outstanding suspects.

“Information on one of the men’s whereabouts was received, and it indicated that he was hiding at the hostel. Police carried out a planned operation at the hostel.

When officers knocked on the targeted room and identified themselves, the occupant opened fire. A gun battle followed, leaving two suspects fatally wounded,” said Lieutenant Colonel Paul Magwaza, police spokesperson

Police found two unlicensed firearms as well as six rounds of ammunition.
