Seasonal holiday plans in place in Ray Nkonyeni Municipality
The focus areas are holiday spots such as beaches and parks, from Hibberdene to Port Edward.
Seasonal plans were presented by Ray Nkonyeni Municipality’s Technical Services and Community Services and Public Safety departments to council last week.
According to the head of the departments, the purpose of a seasonal plan is to provide seamless accessibility to the areas of convergence by tourists and local residents during holiday season, thus experiencing a neat and tidy holiday destination.
The areas of focus will be access to strategic holiday spots such as beaches and parks, and will be concentrated on the coastal zones, from Hibberdene to Port Edward.
The HOD of Technical Services, Sfiso Qwabe, said teams will focus within licensed distribution areas, tourist attraction areas and high traffic areas to ensure quick response 24/7, in and around the electricity distribution area, beach areas, shopping centres, CBD areas and taxi ranks, main routes such as the N2, R102, Marine Drive, R61, Main Harding Road and major townships.
Qwabe added that facilities management teams will monitor all beaches and tourist attraction areas, and the section will operate from 07:30 to 16:00, from Hibberdene to Port Edward.
An extra hour will be added to the beach operations which will be manned daily, from 07:00 to 18:00 during the season for visitors to make use of the beaches.
Parallel operations such as grading of gravel roads as per the programme will also be in place.
Operations will also look at strategic roads leading to Margate Airport, with a view to ensuring accessibility to and from the facility.
