Five from one family killed in N2 Umzumbe head-on

The matter has been handed over to the Saps for further investigation.

A devastating head-on collision on the N2, before the Umzumbe River Bridge, claimed the lives of five people from the same family last night.

According to a media and public statement issued at 21:00 by MEC for Transport and Human Settlements Siboniso Duma from Inkosi Mhlabunzima Maphumulo House, the accident involved a Suzuki light motor vehicle and a seven-seater minibus.

Three children, aged between three and five, and two adults believed to be the mother and father, died instantly. Two other victims – a woman and a 14-year-old boy – were rushed to the nearest hospital for urgent care.

From the seven-seater, two people were injured.

“We wish to express our deepest condolences to the families of the deceased,” said Duma.

Duma added that, as per procedure in such horrific cases, the matter has been handed over to the Saps for further investigation.
