PROTEST SHUTS N2: Motorists urged to avoid the Murchison route

Delay your trip if you want to go from Marburg to Paddock, the road is still blocked at different places.

The N2 from Marburg towards Kokstad remains closed this morning after violent protest action started last night.

The route is blocked at several points in the Murchison area.

According to reports, last night trucks were stopped, with some drivers assaulted and vehicles reportedly looted.

Trucks looted. 

Saps, Public Order Police officers and private security teams are on scene working to clear the road, but the situation remains volatile.

Motorists are urged to stay away from the area and use alternative routes until authorities declare the road safe.

It is unclear at this stage as to why there is a protest.

This is an evolving story and will be updated accordingly.
