G20 Movement: South Coasters join in to stand against GBV

Today's protest around the country aim to raise awareness, honour survivors and highlight the urgent need for stronger protection of women and children.

Men and women from the Beekman Group joined this morning's run/walk at the Port Shepstone Country Club.

To stand against gender-based violence, the Tough Cookies Running Club along with many walkers and runners rose early this morning (Friday 21st) to support the Women for Change South Africa and the G20 Movement Against Gender-Based Violence.

The event organised by Thobe Marcia Cele of Tough Cookies Running Club saw a fantastic turnout with runners and walkers taking to the road (bright and early) just after 05:00.

Up early to support the cause are (from left) Thobe Maria Cele, Ntalimeng Luthuli, Lorna McCarthy, Sarie Jacobs, Moria King, Sbonela Mbhele and Thando Dlamini.

If you would like to get support the movement, there are two other events happening today:

* Everyone is urged to meet at the Shelly Centre roof parking at 11:00, where they will unite under the message: Stop Violence Against Our Women and Children.

* Following the walk, a silent protest will be held outside the Port Shepstone courts at 13:00, to stand in quiet demonstration against ongoing violence affecting families across the country.
