The stirring sounds of bagpipes and drums are a familiar and cherished part of the South Coast’s cultural landscape, thanks to the Margate Pipes and Drums band.
Established in 2008 by Pipe Major Sean Davidson, the group has become a beacon of community spirit and a testament to the power of music to heal and unite.
After the passing of the band’s beloved previous pipe major, Charles Carr, Davidson stepped up to lead the ensemble.
Under his guidance, the band has continued to thrive, performing at countless local events.
Their powerful presence has been felt at events like Hospice’s Tree of Light and the Voices of Africa concert, where their music adds a unique and moving dimension to the proceedings.
Margate Pipes and Drums is now inviting new members to join their ranks.
They are looking for people passionate about music, whether you’re a seasoned player or a curious beginner.
The band is made up of a variety of musicians, including bagpipers, bass drummers, tenor drummers and snare drummers.
Joining the band is completely free, with no monthly fees.
The only requirement is a commitment to the music and the band.
“This band was created with healing hearts in mind,” said Davidson. “Everyone who has joined has a story, and the music and band have helped them heal from their hurts in life. We look forward to meeting new members and growing our band.”
