New lease on life for dog dumped in Ramsgate
Ramsey was recently fitted with a custom-made prosthetic leg to help him move more easily.
When Ramsey was found in a black plastic bag in Ramsgate one August morning, his chances of survival looked slim.
The tiny puppy, weighing just 1.4kg, had suffered a badly injured paw and was clinging to life.
The community that found him refused to give up – members from Ramsgate Community Policing Forum and Ramsgate SOS Animal Group stepped in – offering a reward for information leading to the identification of the person or people responsible.
Today, months later, Ramsey is not only alive, but thriving thanks to compassion, care, and a little help from science.
After being rushed to Dr Watson Veterinary Clinic, Ramsey began a long road to recovery under the care of Dr Dave and Julia Watson, who later became his adoptive parents. With lots of care and nurturing from Julia and Dave – they managed to save his leg and only amputate a few toes.
Recently, Ramsey’s story took another uplifting turn when Henry and Lynelle Leslie from Gauteng donated a custom-made prosthetic leg to help him move more easily.
The couple took precise measurements on their first visit and returned weeks later with several prototypes to ensure the perfect fit.
Today, Ramsey proudly sports his new ‘peg leg’ – a sleek, lightweight prosthesis that allows him to run, play, and even keep up with the other dogs at the Watsons’ home.
“Seeing him run around with his prosthetics (as he has lost a few during the trial period) was incredibly emotional,” said Julia.
“He’s such a happy little soul, full of life and confidence. Even when he loses a prosthetic, he runs around the farm like a lunatic. You’d never guess what he’s been through.”
