Makeover for Port Shepstone Saps’ victim friendly facility
The revamp was done by Matla a Bana Foundation, a non-profit organisation that supports Saps initiatives for victims of abuse across South Africa.
The Port Shepstone Saps‘ victim friendly facility recently got a much-needed makeover.
The revamp was carried out by the Matla a Bana Foundation, a non-profit organisation that regularly supports Saps initiatives for victims of abuse across South Africa. To date, the foundation has revamped over 42 such facilities.

Monique Strydom, founder of Matla a Bana – A Voice Against Child Abuse – is an award-winning keynote speaker, trainer and former actress. She was one of 21 hostages held by Abu Sayyaf rebels for 127 days in the Philippine jungle in 2000.
Her organisation, founded in 2002, assists thousands of abused children annually, aiming to minimise the secondary trauma children often experience when reporting crimes.

Matla a Bana also provides training for police members, equipping them with skills to manage stress, trauma and sensitive victim interactions.
Saps members expressed deep gratitude for the facility revamp, noting that it will provide victims with a welcoming, comfortable environment to safely disclose sensitive information during preliminary investigations.
