MK councillor has gadgets confiscated in SIU investigation – VIDEO

The operation was supported by specialised units of Saps - the National Intervention Unit, the Hawks and the Tactical Response Team.

The Special Investigating Unit (SIU), working with Saps, has confiscated all electronic devices belonging to Ray Nkonyeni Municipality MK councillor, Pat Madlala.

In a statement, the SIU said it is in connection with the ongoing investigation into a sophisticated syndicate that allegedly siphoned about R161m from the Unemployment Insurance Fund’s (UIF) Covid-19 Temporary Employer/Employee Relief Scheme (TERS) in 2021.

The operation was supported by specialised units of Saps, including the National Intervention Unit, the Hawks, and the Tactical Response Team (TRT).

Spokesperson for the SIU, Kaizer Kganyago, said that Madlala is a primary person of interest as his company, Bokoharama Construction, allegedly received R18 million in TERS funds.

The SIU confiscated all gadgets belonging to RNM councillor Pat Madlala.

“The SIU investigation reveals that payments were directed toward asset purchases for the alleged mastermind and other syndicate figures.”

Madlala was asked for comment, but was unable to make a statement.

A similar operation is also taking place in Scottburgh under Umdoni Municipality.
