Explore Old Masters at Margate Art Museum
The exhibition runs through the summer, ending on February 28.
A fresh exhibition opened at the Margate Art Museum late last year, with talented Art by the Sea club artists sharing their takes on the Old Masters Reimagined.
Art connoisseurs were captivated by the work of around 50 artists, featuring diverse techniques and styles, including landscapes, abstract pieces, and much more.
The artists’ brief was to present a new take on the classics by masters like Van Gogh, Monet, Da Vinci and Vermeer.
Art by the Sea chairperson Gordon Dinner welcomed the attendees and thanked all involved for their hard work. He especially thanked curator Siya-Madala Sotsu for ‘giving us a place to do our art’.
Sotsu had the unenviable task of choosing the winners. “Two works in particular spoke to me. Both I believe capture the spirit and intention of the exhibition,” he said.
Lisa Beukes took home the best centrepiece award while Adele Joubert was named best in show.
Guests were treated to welcome drinks and a spectacular buffet, while several took the opportunity to purchase some of the stunning art on sale.
The exhibition runs through the summer, ending on February 28, so visit the Margate Art Museum for a culture kick.
