Message to thief: ‘Return our pink buoy at Umzumbe Beach’
It's a criminal offence to steal one of these buoys.
The pink buoy has been stolen from the Umzumbe Blue Flag beach tidal pool, somewhere between Monday afternoon and Tuesday morning.
Ward 13 councillor Tessa Perryman explained that the NSRI pink buoys are placed in areas where they can be used to save lives and help prevent people from drowning.
“Stealing an NSRI buoy is a criminal offense, classified as theft. If caught with one, it can result in significant penalties, including a fine, imprisonment, and a criminal record,” she said.
“We are requesting that whoever took it, to please return it. It can be left in the parking lot or near the lifeguard house or better still, put back on the pole where it belongs.”
A local resident echoed the councillor’s plea. “This is not just a theft of a personal item from anyone, but an important life saving tool.”
