28 drunk drivers arrested in Umkomaas

More similar operations are planned.

A drunk driving blitz collaboration with Umkomaas Saps, Winklespruit Road Traffic Inspectorate and Durban Metro Police led to multiple arrests on Sunday.

Law enforcement officers intensified operations to combat fatalities in the area.

According to Umkomaas Saps communications officer, Captain Ranjith Rampersad, 28 drivers were arrested for drunken driving in Umkomaas.

“Drunken driving is a leading cause of preventable road fatalities, and motorists are urged to always plan their ride and arrange for a designated driver, taxi or uber,” said Rampersad.

The acting station commander of Umkomaas Saps, Lieutenant Colonel Mthembeni Zungu, stated that the Umkomaas police precinct is a ‘no go area for drunk drivers’ and every effort will be made to arrest culprits.

More operations are being planned.
