Tidy Towns Sea Park to Banana Beach has hit the ground running in the new year, unveiling exciting plans and community-driven initiatives aimed at keeping the northern stretch of the South Coast cleaner, greener and more inviting.
Cindy Baker has called on residents to support the group’s next family movie night fundraiser, set to take place at the parking area at Sunwich Port main beach.

The evening promises relaxed family fun under the stars, with the screening of Zootopia 2, currently Hollywood’s highest-grossing animated film ever.
Tickets are priced at R50 per adult and R30 for children under 10, with everyone encouraged to bring along chairs, blankets, family and friends.

“All the funds raised go towards paying volunteers who work tirelessly to keep our suburbs clean and tidy,” said Baker.
One such volunteer is Fetsie Gambushe, well known in the community for the vital role he plays in keeping the suburbs, shopping complexes and beaches of Anerley, Southport and Sea Park litter-free.

His dedication, along with the support of Tidy Towns, continues to make a visible difference across the area.
Baker has been the driving force behind numerous beautification projects, with locals already noticing the positive changes at several beaches.
She has taken Sunwich Port Beach under her wing, with the help of Zac Graham and Jessie Singh.

Working together with Ray Nkonyeni Municipality, the beach, parking area and public toilets are now clean, well maintained and welcoming.
“Thanks to donations to Tidy Towns and Graham’s hard work, the public toilets now have brand new toilet roll holders, liquid soap dispensers, mirrors and ‘his and her’ toilet signs and a repaired door.”
A newly installed photo frame has become a popular attraction, with visitors stopping to capture memories against the scenic coastal backdrop.
Southport Beach has successfully maintained its Blue Flag status and is consistently kept in pristine condition, attracting a steady stream of visitors.
Plans are already in place to erect a similar photo frame at this beach.
Baker said it was lovely recently to collaborate with Anton Rossouw, Ray Nkonyeni Municipality beach manager, at Southport Beach.
With several exciting projects planned, the partnership aims to ensure the beach remains pristine and welcoming for all.
“A special thank-you goes to artist Amy D Rainbow Rose, who volunteered her talent – with only a small donation from Tidy Towns – to paint the beach long board. She also added her creative touch to the surfboards at Sunwich Port Beach.”
There are also great plans to zhoosh up a few gardens and make some new ones. So watch this space!
“Gratitude is also extended to the sponsors who continue to support our initiatives and make this important work possible. Community support remains key to sustaining these efforts throughout the year,” said Baker.
