Crime awareness campaign promotes partnerships in Amahlongwa

Residents were encouraged to join the Community Policing Forum.

A crime awareness symposium was recently convened in Amahlongwa under the Umkomaas policing area.

The symposium was spearheaded by acting station commander Lieutenant Colonel Mthembeni Zungu, and detective commander Lieutenant Colonel John Mthobise Ngema.

Role-players included Mrs Gumede from the Umkomaas Community Police Forum, Induna Ngidi, Youth Desk members and the extended Amahlongwa community.

“Crime awareness around drugs and rape focusses on how substances facilitate sexual assault, the common drugs involved, prevention strategies and how to support victims while challenging myths that blame survivors,” said Umkomaas spokesperson Captain Ranjith Rampersad.

“Reporting criminality was part of the agenda.”

Rampersad further explained that these awareness campaigns emphasise safety measures and community responsibility.

“Every effort must be made to boost moral regeneration at all levels. We need to claim back our space and encourage a crime free neighbourhood.”

Zungu encourages all residents of the Umkomaas policing precinct to join the Community Policing Forum and share expertise to combat crime and promote partnership policing.

“Together we can do it,” said Zungu.
