Fire breaks out in Port Shepstone CBD

The fire department has been on scene. This is a developing story.

It’s uncertain at this stage what caused a fire to break out in Bazley Street in Port Shepstone around mid morning today.

One local had been in town to visit the doctor when she saw the flames and decided it would be better to leave immediately as it looked dangerously threatening.

“It was massive and getting bigger,” she said.

A resident in Umtentweni could see the smoke from across the Mzimkhulu River. “It was billowing pitch black, scary, hectic,” she said.

The RNM fire department and private paramedic groups are on scene.
