Marine conservation questions in focus at Umtamvuna Marine Conservancy

There is no fixed entry fee, but donations towards conservation efforts would be highly appreciated.

Umtamvuna Marine Conservancy is hosting a joint information session later this month, bringing together local environmental experts for an open discussion on marine and coastal conservation issues affecting the South Coast.

The information session takes place on Thursday, February 26, with arrivals from 16:45 for a 17:00 start. The venue is 592 8th Street, Port Edward.

The session will be led by Zeph Dilindenkazi of Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife and Aubrey Luthuli from the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment. Community members are invited to engage with experts on a range of practical and often-asked questions around environmental protection and regulations.

Topics to be discussed include whether seed picking poses a threat to the environment, why fishing permits are essential, and how much sand may legally be removed from beaches. Attendees will also have the opportunity to raise any other questions they may have during the discussion.

There is no fixed entry fee, but donations towards conservation efforts would be highly appreciated. Those wishing to attend are asked to RSVP to Berendine on 079 1360593.
