Cricket log leaders Port Shepstone Country Club demolish Harding
There a still a few games to be played to decide which teams qualify and where.
Port Shepstone Country Club obliterated Harding CC in a one-sided cricket match in Harding recently.
It sees them take top spot on the log in Division 1 and make a huge statement ahead of the approaching semi-finals and probable finals.
The team is loaded with former Southern KZN players who seem determined to win the 30 Over Cup this season.
Country Club batted first and amassed a colossal 308-4 in the 30 overs.
Jayden Scholtz, who opened the batting, made 101 off 66 balls before retiring. Then came Ashley Lombard’s assault, 103 off 44 balls including 10 sixes, before he too retired.
Others to chip in were Morné Bishop (23 off 34), Shaun Ferreira (20* off 20) and Josh Pillay (22 off 8).
For the bowlers, Luke Jones took 2-51 (6) and opener Bryan Mannix 1-36 (6). John Jansen van Rensburg took 1-11 (1) while the rest travelled to all parts of the ground, but mainly over Cow Corner.
In reply, Harding could only manage 127 all out. It didn’t help that they were without one of the main players in Matt Payn.
Luke Jones batted well at the top, making 62 off 60. He had support from Mannix who made 37 off 39 and at one stage Harding were 106 for 1 after 18 overs.
Then Mannix was dismissed followed four runs later by Jones and then it was a rapid procession of wickets as Harding swung for glory and who could blame them.
Shaun Ferreira, coming on as the eighth bowler, took 4-3 in 1.2 overs.
Leg spinners Scholtz 2-9 (2) and Garreth Bishop 2-27 (5) got the key wickets of Jones and Mannix respectively.
