Sixes, chirps fly all day long in league cricket

Rain once again had a major impact on games in the Southern KZN 30 Over Cup recently.

Only three games took place, one in Division 2 (at Sezela where rain wasn’t a factor) and two in Division 3, these played on the astro at Margate Primary.

The Division 2 game was a low-scoring affair with Port Edward Warriors denying Sezela an opportunity to climb back up the log.

Meanwhile, runs flowed all day long in Margate, especially in the second game between Wolfpack and Challengers, with some massive sixes struck, in particular by Ayanda Jili (Wolfpack).

The game was played in good spirit, with chirps bobbing around all over the place, all day long, it seemed.

Teenager Marcel van Etteryk (13) of Challengers showed he knows how to pull and hook, whacking five sixes in a 38-ball 64.

Earlier, Lindokuhle Luthuli almost got Gamalakhe over the line in a big run chase against PayRite, with 83 not out, also clearing the boundary on the leg side with regularity.

The match was shortened due to the weather, with Gamalakhe falling just short, with PayRite holding their nerve if only just.
