Art-in-the-Park in Uvongo this Saturday

The event will continue monthly, on a permanent basis, on the first Saturday morning of each month.

Art is very much alive on the KZN South Coast!

This is evident in the tremendous success of the very first Art-in-the-Park event held in Uvongo at the beginning of February.

Local art lovers and friends are invited to experience the magic of Art-in-the-Park Uvongo this Saturday morning (March 7).

The area is pet friendly for pets-on-leads and owners-with-scoops. Also, the quaint coffee shop across the street, offers delectable treats for fur kids.

The exhibition will be open from 09:00 to 13:00 in the park on Marine Drive between the central Uvongo robots and the iVungu Road bridge (over Uvongo Falls).

A beautiful large landscape painting by internationally acclaimed artist, Nigel Chapman, is up for grabs in a raffle, which will be run over two months.

Tickets can be purchased in the park on the two exhibition days. The winner will be notified at closing of the April event.

Since the February event, several other artists joined the ranks of the original group, which promises a greater variety and an even better experience on March 7.

Johann du Toit, initiator of the concept, is overwhelmed by seeing so many artists participating in the event.

Likewise, so many visitors remarked on the joy of viewing exquisite artworks and mingling with the artists in such an informal and relaxed atmosphere under the trees.

“This left no doubt in my mind that Art-in-the-Park is here to stay. Worldwide the trend is to bring art to where the people are, and this is exactly how it is done here, with the visibility and easy street access to this event,” said Johann.

Therefore it was decided that the events should continue monthly, on a permanent basis, on the first Saturday morning of each month.

In the long run, as it grows bigger, it has the potential of becoming an important tourism drawcard for the South Coast.
