Park Rynie RTI nabs Ferrari speedster

The driver was charged with speeding, failing to display number plates and a licence disc.

In the course of executing the #NenzaniLaEzweni Operation, the no-nonsense Park Rynie RTI team intercepted and arrested Amir Abbas Bighash for driving at 208km/h in a 120km/h zone in his red Ferrari F8 Spider.

The accused appeared in the Scottburgh Magistrate’s Court on Monday this week, where he was charged with speeding, failing to display number plates and failing to display a licence disc.

As per the KZN Department of Transport, it was also discovered that he had an outstanding warrant of arrest for which he paid R5 100 on top of his bail of R3 000.

He will reappear in court with his attorney on March 16.

The Park Rynie RTI has been hard at work ridding the streets of reckless drivers.

Last week, the MEC for Transport and Human Settlements, Siboniso Duma, once again praised these members and the Scottburgh Magistrate’s Court after more than 12 motorists recently earned themselves criminal records after their convictions for speeding and reckless driving.

Duma said that this is a clear indication of an integrated approach with the justice system, and it is strengthening their road safety campaign.

Yusuf Ismail, who was arrested after fleeing from RTI and leaving behind his identity document, appeared in court on February 25. He was arrested for speeding at 204km/h in a 120km/h zone. He will reappear in court on March 18 for plea and sentencing. He was traced and nabbed by RTI hiding at a golf estate on the South Coast.

This followed a meticulous investigation, which included the analysis of video footage and the use of advanced technology.

“We are determined to clean up our more than 34 000km of road networks by removing reckless drivers,” said Duma.

“RTI teams across all corners of the province have joined forces with traffic officers in various municipalities following the meeting of the Integrated Traffic Law Enforcement Committee. As we announced, we are focusing on rolling out operations 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and 365 days a year.”
