Oshabeni protests over water issues

The protest had led to the closure of schools and local businesses in the area.

Hundreds of Oshabeni Location community members have embarked on protest this morning, blockading Old St Faith’s Road.

The community says it has had enough of empty promises provided to them by government authorities.

Topping the list of grievances is the lack of running water, plus the poor state of Old St Faith’s Road/P68, the seemingly unending load reduction, and more.

The community said that it held a protest in September last year when Ugu authorities promised to sort out water issues but had failed to keep do this as yet.

“The authorities must open all water valves so all people can get water,” said one person.

“As we gathered here, we will not depart here until we see water coming out from the taps. No more empty promises.”

At the moment the police cops are present to monitor the situation.

The protest had led to the closure of schools and local businesses in the area.
