Help make Scottburgh clean and green

Keep Scottburgh Beautiful is open to ideas to help the town, and volunteers are welcome to join.

With local non-profit Keep Scottburgh Beautiful (KSB) busy with activities, locals are encouraged to join in on the action and help make Scottburgh a cleaner and greener place for all to enjoy.

According to KSB, the town is far more than just a collection of houses and streets, it is a shared living space that belongs to every person who calls it home! Therefore, everyone has a stake in its story and the power to shape its future.

Small actions can make a huge impact. With this in mind, take note of the following tips and ideas on how you can help make Scottburgh more beautiful:
• Pick up litter – When you see litter in the streets or sidewalks as you walk through town, pick it up and throw it away.

• Clean-up pavements – Weeds get everywhere, including the town’s pavements and/or sidewalks. This can quickly spread making sidewalks look untidy. Why not spend a morning cleaning up pavements/sidewalks to keep the town neat and tidy?

Community members took it upon themselves to do pothole patching in Scottburgh last week, showing great community spirit.

• Cut grass – Grass can grow quickly on the sunny South Coast. If you have some time and the resources, trim the verges on your street.

• Clear roadside gutters – Rainwater gutters can quickly get clogged with leaves, debris and litter which can prevent water from draining during heavy rains and eventually contribute to flooding. The roadside gutters have a lot of leaves/debris. Perhaps grab a broom and clear them up for not just a cleaner, but also safer community.

• Weed flower beds – There are quite a few flower beds around town. These are fairly often overgrown with weeds which then make them look untidy. Spend a morning weeding, cleaning and clearing one of these flower beds, or even plant a few plants to freshen them up.

KSB is always open to ideas to help the town, and volunteers are most welcome. Email keepscottburghbeautiful@gmail.com to find out more.
