Volunteers clean beach from Sea Park to Umtentweni

A bakkie load of rubbish was collected.

More than 50 learners, Rotarians and members of the public turned out in support of a beach clean-up on March 29, covering the stretch between Sea Park and Umtentweni.

The Bendigo Conservancy arranged the clean-up in collaboration with Rotary Port Shepstone, after a request from a concerned resident about pollution in the area.

Chairperson of the Bendigo Conservancy, Joan Gallagher, said committee members set up a stand at Tweni beach, offering a delightful selection of crocheted animals for sale, along with home-made kombucha and iced tea for walkers on their arrival.

She said the weather was beautiful, and a bakkie load of rubbish was collected along the beach.

“Thank you to everyone who contributed to and attended the successful clean-up. Some 43 learners from Creston College registered and were accompanied by their teachers, Garth Jackson and Sonja Voigts,” said Gallagher.
