Big smiles and bags of colour at fun walk in Scottburgh

The event, a fundraiser, was in aid of Child Welfare SA Umzinto.

Community members came together for a fun 5km colour walk at Scottburgh beach on April 4, in support of Child Welfare SA Umzinto.

People of all ages enjoyed being part of the fundraiser for vulnerable children, and aside from the walk, attendees had an opportunity to explore craft markets, food stalls, participated in Easter egg hunts, listened to live music, and more.

Organiser Nibia Claire Nyawose said the event was a truly beautiful and heart-warming experience.

“Seeing the community come together, families laughing, children enjoying themselves, and everyone supporting such a meaningful cause made all the hard work worthwhile,” she said.

“As an organiser, it was overwhelming in the best way to see everything come to life and to feel the love and support from everyone who attended. A big thank you to our amazing sponsors.”

Nibia also mentioned that welfare has always held a special place in her heart, as it did with her late mother Lorna Thomson.

“I decided to do this not only because every child deserves care, protection and a chance at a better future, but also because it was my mom’s wish to always do good for the community through events that carry meaningful causes. Being able to honour her in this way makes it even more special to me,” she said.

“If we can come together as a community to make even the smallest difference, then it’s all worth it.”
