Brave Scouts receive historic award

It's the first time the gallantry bronze cross has been awarded in KwaZulu-Natal.

Two South Coasters, Moxie Lombard and Mayah Potgieter, have been awarded the Scouts gallantry bronze cross award for saving a drowning child last year.

Moxie is 20 and lives in Ramsgate. Mayah is 19 and from St Mike’s, you may also recognise her name from her various surfing exploits over the years.

It’s an historic moment as it’s the first time the gallantry bronze cross has been awarded in KwaZulu-Natal, and only the 16th and 17th time in the entire history of Scouts South Africa.

The cross is the highest honour for gallantry, awarded for exceptional heroism in situations involving extraordinary personal risk.

It recognises acts of bravery that demonstrate remarkable courage, deliberate action in the face of significant danger, and a level of heroism far beyond what would normally be expected.
