BRONWYN TANNER – Tuning In: Not all of our heroes wear capes
Community news and events for Pennington and surrounding areas.
Viv Sandwith of Tidy Towns Pennington sent the following: Not all heroes wear capes and they need to be saluted. In the last few weeks, we have witnessed heroic acts (big and small) from several of our guardian angels, who went above and beyond the call of duty.
Last week a car was stolen from Cherry Lane, where the parking was full. Goodman, the weekend car guard, had noticed a car with two guys drive down Cherry Lane, come back and park on the pavement. By the time he’d crossed road to them, a red Toyota drove past, which he recognised as a customer’s. He immediately alerted the owners. The car was recovered at Park Rynie beach. Thanks to Goodman for being so alert and raising the alarm!
The week before, our lifeguards assisted residents to find their stolen goods on the railway line, after a home robbery.
We also thank both Gladiator, PCW and the Saps reservist, whose joint swift action resulted in the successful retrieval of the goods in both situations.
This weekend, I was sent photos of our lifeguards cleaning up the picnic site early in the morning – not part of their duties at all. So grateful.
Thanks also to car guard Solomon who was seen lovingly looking after a customer’s dogs for a few minutes while she ran in to collect something. We are blessed to have these guardian angels looking after us.
All the car guards in Pennington work on a volunteer basis. They are not employed by anybody. They rely solely on your generosity to make a living. Make a point of looking after them as well.
Tidy Towns provides all six ‘official’ car guards with high visibility vests and caps, so everyone can identify the authorised car guards. We protect their jobs from other opportunists.
Tidy Towns also provides all car guards with a monthly voucher to say thank you for their service and dedication, so they can buy a good meal at month-end.
Thanks to all other individuals who assist our local heroes.
