Mechanics empowered in Umzinto

Tool boxes were also donated to the beneficiaries.

A seven-stall mechanic workshop was officially opened and handed over to local mechanics in Umzinto on April 17.

This was done under the leadership of Umdoni Municipality mayor Mbali Cele-Luthuli. She explained that the construction of the workshop was made possible through a collaborative effort with the Department of Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs (EDTEA).

“This facility is more than a structure, it’s a beacon of opportunity, a foundation for growth and proof of what collaboration can achieve,” said the mayor.

“This workshop will empower local mechanics and small business owners to expand their services, sharpen their skills, and contribute to the growth of Umzinto and the wider Umdoni Municipality.”

Together with the opening of the workshop, tool boxes were donated to the beneficiaries.

On behalf of the EDTEA, Trade & Investment KwaZulu-Natal CEO, Sihle Ngcamu, urged the mechanics to keep this institution in good condition so that they can continue creating job opportunities and develop skills for the coming generations.

The local leadership also noted that together with collaborative efforts such as this, they are building an inclusive, resilient and prosperous economy for the future.

Prior to the workshop handover, site visits were conducted at Scottburgh beach’s arts and crafts market, as well as the Scottburgh market stalls.
