Entrance to Hibberdene gets makeover

The project is now in its final stages, with grouting and the planting of the garden still to be completed.

Residents, businesses, and stakeholders have joined forces to revitalise the entrance to Hibberdene.

The initiative began when resident Dane Cookson set out to clean the area with his family.

What followed was an overwhelming show of support from the community, with volunteers stepping forward and local businesses contributing materials and resources to expand the project into a full-scale revamp.

Work undertaken included the removal of old tiles, installation of new tiling, repainting of the structure, and the installation of a refreshed welcome sign.

Decorative pots have also been painted, with landscaping and planting set to complete the upgrade.

The Ray Nkonyeni Municipality approved the initiative and worked with the team to ensure compliance with environmental and signage requirements.

Despite facing delays due to weather and an incident of vandalism, the community remained committed. Damages were swiftly repaired, and work continued without hesitation.

The project is now in its final stages, with grouting and the planting of the garden still to be completed.

The upgraded entrance was planned to be in time for the Easter holiday period, offering a welcoming and improved first impression for visitors to the area.

Cookson emphasised that the project’s success lies in the community’s collective effort.

“This was never about one person. It started small, but the community made it what it is today. It shows what we can achieve when we work together,” he said.
