Missing traffic markers force temporary closure of road near Port Shepstone

A stretch of the R102 is closed for the next week.

Motorists are advised that the roadway section between Rethman Drive and Abingdon Road has been temporarily closed from 16:00 on Friday, June 12, until the provisional reopening time of 18:00 on Friday, June 19.

According to Nolwazi Mkhungo of Jamjo Civils, the closure was implemented due to the absence of the required traffic control signage along the route.

The missing delineators have compromised the safe guidance of road users and significantly reduced visibility, particularly during periods of darkness and adverse weather conditions.

Mkhungo said the roadway currently does not meet the minimum safety standards prescribed by the South African Road Traffic Signs Manual (SARTSM).

The road section will remain closed until the signage has been reinstated and is compliant with the approved Traffic Management Plan.

The closure has been implemented in the interest of public safety and in accordance with applicable road safety standards to prevent potential accidents and protect road users from the risks associated with inadequate road delineation.

During the closure, light motor vehicles are required to use Link Road as a detour, while heavy motor vehicles must make use of Commercial Road.

Jamjo Civils apologised for the inconvenience caused and thanked road users for their cooperation and understanding during the closure period.
