The church hall was again full for Stonecroft Ministries’ May meeting with the theme of hidden gems.
Brendan Cluley, aka the PrivateGuy, gave a sparkling talk on some of the scenic, hidden gems of the South Coast.
He was born locally, but later moved away to study, and then stayed to follow his career.
However, the pull of home was too strong and he returned as he felt it was the most beautiful place to live.
Brendan referred to Tragedy Hill at Port Edward and asked the audience what they knew of it.
Someone mentioned the 1552 wreck of the Portuguese ship, the Sao Joao, and Brendan added the tragic tale of the 1831 massacre of a settler family.
On the subject of shipwrecks he mentioned the beautiful Glenmore beach where, at low tide, parts of the 1933 wreck of The Nightingale can still be seen.
When going to the beach he recommended checking tide time tables and exploring the rock pools at low tide.
He also advised being vigilant both to protect our beautiful wildlife and ourselves.
Brendan closed his talk by saying that our area’s most important gems are its friendly people, and to spend our time with those we love.
After tea, Veronica Boshoff, who is involved in a local church and is leader of a ladies’ bible study group, shared on spiritual gems.
She opened by asking the guests ‘what are our own spiritual gems?’
She suggested peace, love – for ourselves and others. She said spiritual gems were also loving our neighbours as we are all connected through Jesus Christ.
Veronica then shared her testimony saying that she was privileged to be born into a Christian home and first met Jesus at an early age.
She enjoyed working in the business environment, her natural ability and passion for organisation bringing much success.
Unfortunately, she was unable to set boundaries and had inadvertently become a workaholic.
She and her husband were raising their three children and she was struggling to ‘keep it all together’.
Veronica needed to resolve this situation but didn’t know how and it was then that she met Jesus for the second time when she joined a new church after moving to the South Coast.
She shared that Jesus is her hidden gem, making a way for her, assuring her that she is good enough. He brought her back and He will always bring us back too.
The next meeting is at the Shelly Beach Methodist Church on Friday, June 19 at 09:30.
