WATCH: Pockets of sardine activity continue along South Coast

The silver shoals are moving steadily up the coastline and have been spotted in Margate and Hibberdene this morning (June 15).

Seine netters are in Hibberdene and Margate today (June 15).

Sardines were netted at St Michael’s Beach and Shelly Beach on Sunday (June 14).

According to Stompie Koekemoer from KZN Fishing Guides, a net got stuck on the rocks at Shelly Beach, and seine netters lost their catch.

“A south-westerly wind is blowing which will make the sea flat. So, tomorrow (Tuesday) to Saturday sea conditions will be good. This means good fishing, and hopefully more sards to come. Game fish are also around, so get ready for a fantastic week ahead,” said Stompie.

A boat heads out to sea at Margate Beach this morning (Monday).

Sardines netted at Port Edward on Saturday (June 13) filled 52 crates and sold at R1 200 per crate. On the streets, the little silver fish were sold at R50 per dozen.
